Beginning players will have better results by sticking with a light weight discs in the less expensive plastic. The more expensive the plastic the more over stable the fight pattern.  Besides when you are first starting out why take the chance of losing an expensive disc.  Heavier discs do not fly further for a beginner or someone with a slower arm speed.  A stable mid range disc or putter will provide more accuracy and control while you are practicing your form.  It is best to start with no more than 3 different types of discs and throw them enough in different wind conditions to learn their flight patterns.  I would stick with discs rated 0 to -1 in stability and with a deeper rim for easier control for a backhand thrower.  Discs like the Shark, Leopard. XL, or Stratus are suggestions.  For a side arm thrower I would try a more over stable disc like a Wraith, Force or Pro D Challenger because you want something you can depend on coming back to the right .  Experiment with the angle of release to control the flight patterns.  Remember to practice accuracy first with good technique before you worry about distance.
